Iris Karbon successfully defended her master's thesis on "Off-target effects of Biological Nitrification Inhibitors in an Agricultural Soil" that she conducted within the playNICE project.

For her master's project, Iris incubated agricultural soil from a long term field trial run by the AGES near Linz and analyzed effects of biological and synthetic nitrification inhibitors (BNIs and SNIs) on microbial functions, including CO₂ accumulation, extracellular enzyme activities, and carbon substrate degradation patterns. Her findings revealed that BNIs rather stimulated activity rates of non-target soil microorganisms, while SNIs tended to have a suppressive effect, highlighting the potential applicability of BNIs to reduce N fertilizer losses.

It was great to have Iris in our team and we want to congratulate to excellent presenation and wish all the best for the next steps!
